Garden center opens adjacent to Best Value

Best Value Supermarket in Mathews has opened a garden center outside the market, featuring all types of flowering plants and yard apparatus like fire pits and small mulch trailers.

Kathryn Tatterson, who owns the business with her husband Sterling Hudgins, said the open air center on a gravel pad sells hanging plants, perennials and herbs, and soon will sell a selection of shrubs. Customers can find plant pots and hanging rods there as well.

There’s room for the center to expand if there’s a demand, Tatterson said.

Some of the plants are from Tatterson Greenhouses at Port Haywood, a business owned by her family for many years that is currently closed to the public. She is the daughter of Bill Tatterson and the late Jeannie Tatterson.
