Fifty-two runners, ages 3 to over 60, took part in the ninth annual Mathews Market Days 5K Race and Junior Mile, held Saturday at Williams Wharf Landing and hosted by the Mathews Land Conservancy.
In the 5K race, Zach Garcia and Emily Brown, both of Mathews, took overall wins with times of 15:42 and 21:27 respectively, according to race director Lynda Smith Greve.
For the 5K race in the male division, second place went to Douglas Marshall of Mathews (17:02). The third-place winner was Kyle Slaughter of Hudgins (18:25). For females in the 5K race, the second-place winner was Heather Hudgins of Mathews (21:38), and third went to Carey Phillips of Williamsburg (23:59).
In the Junior Mile, Izabella Massimino of Hudgins, and Justin Ashberry of Hallieford, took overall wins with times of 7:31 and 7:39 respectively.
