Gambling-related gifts inappropriate for children

The Virginia Council on Problem Gambling has partnered with Virginia Lottery to remind adults that lottery scratch tickets are not appropriate gifts for children.

Virginia Lottery’s interim director Tony Russell reminds Virginians that state law makes it a crime to give a lottery ticket to a minor.

In addition, Carolyn Hawley, director of the Virginia Council, said gambling-related gifts “are inappropriate presents for children.” A council press release said “Research shows that the earlier a person’s participation or exposure to gambling is in childhood, the more likely they are to develop a gambling problem later in life.”
