GAMBLE MCALLISTER SISSON

Gamble McAllister Sisson (“Mac”), 66, passed away peacefully at home in Gloucester Point on Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

Born in Richmond, Mac was the fourth child of Hugh Hamilton and Frances Bowers Sisson. Mac attended the University of Virginia, Old Dominion University, and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS).

Mac’s early employment at Deep Sea Ventures as a Junior Oceanographer gave him memories and sea stories to last a lifetime. Following his time at Deep Sea Ventures, Mac was employed as a Senior Engineering Analyst with Newport News Shipbuilding. However, Mac spent the majority of his career at VIMS in Gloucester Point, dedicating more than 30 years of service, where he was awarded the honor of the 2017 Outstanding Employee for Technical Support.

Mac was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Landon Peabody, and his brother, Hugh Hamilton Sisson III.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Lynne Zuber of Gloucester Point; his sister, Frances Blair (Timothy) Higgins of Melbourne, Florida, and numerous nieces, nephews, step-children, and beloved grandchildren.

A proud Virginian, Mac served as a board member of the Guinea Heritage Association and was an avid UVA sports fan.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on June 23 at VIMS, 1375 Greate Road, Gloucester Point.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mac’s memory to VIMS, P.O. Box 1346, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062 or The Guinea Heritage Association, P.O. Box 411, Bena, Va. 23018.
