G.I. Festival to be held June 25

The Gwynn’s Island Festival promises to be exciting this year, with all-day music, food, arts and crafts, and children’s activities. Highlights will include military and first responder exhibits, a Lord Dunmore historical skit by the Court House Players, and the chance to dunk a local business or school executive—for a fee.

The festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, at the Gwynn’s Island Civic League, 1996 Old Ferry Road, Gwynn.

The U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, Virginia Marine Resources Commission, Mathews Volunteer Fire Department, and Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad will all be on hand with equipment, demonstrations, and exhibits, said organizer Jan Bassett, while the “Kids Zone” will include an obstacle course, bouncy house/slide, and laser tag.

Music will be by Suite 101, Island Praise, Grits n Gravy, The Outcry Music, and Tyrone & Friends, with food by the Lions Club, Backwoods BBQ, and others, including an ice cream vendor.
