Future of local post offices to be discussed at a series of meetings next week

The U.S. Postal Service will be holding a series of meetings at community post offices in Gloucester and Mathews beginning Monday. The purpose of the meetings, according to USPS communications coordinator Yvette Singh, is to discuss a survey that was sent out to customers of the community post offices.

According to Singh, each customer that holds post office boxes at specific post offices received questionnaires in the mail asking them to choose from a set of four options regarding the future of their post office.

Options customers could choose from included keeping the post office open, discontinuing the post office and offer curbside delivery service, establish a business-style post office that would sell stamps and other items or provide service at a nearby post office.

"The community meetings were set up to discuss the results of those surveys," Singh said. "It’s important for those customers to send the surveys in."
