From trash to art

Petsworth Elementary art teacher Kim Robins asked Petsworth families to help her out with an art project this fall. In June, she asked them to collect plastic bottle caps and lids of all sizes and colors and bring them the first week of school. She was overwhelmed by the response, with over 60,000 caps and lids brought in this month. Above kneeling from left, Avery Watkins collected 6,280 tops and Ashley Jefferson had 5,100 to win second and third place, respectively. Standing are first grader Aiden Cottee, the top winner with 9,168 tops, and Robins. She and her students will use the tops to create murals. Photo by Kim Robins ...
