From small beginnings

On March 3, 1957, 140 people gathered to begin the actual organization of Gloucester Point Baptist Mission; their first worship service was held in April that year at Pine Grove Inn.

The organization of Gloucester Point Baptist Church took place on Oct. 25, 1959 for its 93 charter members. By 1974 membership had increased and services were being held in the new sanctuary on Terrapin Cove Road. The new construction consisted of the sanctuary, seating 350, and an educational building with 12 classrooms, church office, pastor’s study, kitchen, and large narthex.

By 1995 with membership increasing (330 members for 2015), an educational wing was added and it was here the cake and pie contest was held during this year’s Fall Festival. This contest began in 1991.

Beginning as an outreach to the neighborhood, which it remains today, it was held annually for four years and did not resume until 2001. The Free Community Fall Festival of 2015 proved again it’s one of Glouceste...
