Friends of Dragon Run to hold guided nature hike

The Friends of Dragon Run and their guests will celebrate the coming of spring with a guided nature hike from 1-3 p.m. this Sunday, March 19, at the Big Island complex.

There are three walking trails to meet almost everyone’s ability. “You will have an opportunity to view several spring ephemerals (plants that flower early in the spring and quickly disappear) like bloodroot and spring beauty. Leaves on many shrubs and trees will be coming out as well as other woodland plants,” a release stated.

A scavenger hunt will be held for those who would like to search for flora and fauna. In addition to enjoying nature, there will be friendly humans to relax with after the hike, plus hot cider and cookies.

Spaces are limited, so sign up early at The hike is free, but registration is required.

To join FODR, go to and click the membership tab.

Those taking part in the hike are asked to arrive by 1 p.m. The GPS address is 558 Piedmont Road, Shacklefords....
