French tall ship Hermione sails into Yorktown Friday

The French tall ship Hermione—a replica of the frigate that brought Lafayette to America during the Revolutionary War—will visit Yorktown this weekend, its first stop on a several city American tour.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe and Segolene Royal, French Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, will speak during welcoming ceremonies at 10 a.m. Friday at Riverwalk Landing on the Yorktown waterfront. The Yorktown visit is the first of a dozen stops on an East Coast tour that will continue through July.

Deck tours of the tall ship, as well as of the visiting Godspeed replica from Jamestown Settlement, will be available to the public throughout the weekend.

Other activities planned in Yorktown include a Virginia’s Finest Fair, historical re-enactors and interpreters, vendors and entertainment.

Public parking for the Friday ceremonies will be located at Endview Plantation, with bus transport provided to the Yorktown Victory Center and back. Public parking in ...
