A pair of free boating safety seminars will be held on Saturday, May 17, at the Northern Neck Sail & Power Squadron classroom, 453C North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

At 10 a.m., the NNSPS will hold How to Use a Chart. Participants will learn the basics of reading and using a nautical chart for safe boating.

At 1 p.m., the class will be To Use GPS and Chartplotters. While nearly everyone uses a GPS in their car or smartphone, the marine GPS is a different animal. In this seminar, participants will learn how to choose a suitable GPS Chartplotter if your boat doesn’t already have one or if you are looking to upgrade. The class will also focus on the best use of such systems and how to integrate with other onboard electronic systems.
