FRANKLIN W. JARVIS

Franklin W. Jarvis of Gloucester, lovingly known as “Jay,” was peacefully called to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020. He was born on March 15, 1942 in Mathews County. He was the sixth child born to the late Leslie and Helen Jarvis.

As a young man, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He retired after 23 years of service. Frank shared his musical talents with many churches and gospel groups throughout the area. He brought joy to countless nursing home residents by fulling the halls with music. And he provided lessons to eager guitar students. Frank had a vast knowledge of the history of gospel, the blues and rock n roll.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen Louise and Shirley Davis; three brothers, Leslie Wellington Jarvis Jr., Calvin Bernard Jarvis, Edward Jones Jarvis, and son, Charles Adams.

Jay leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mary Washington Jarvis; daughters, Shawnita Williams and Saundra Stephens; son, William Adams (Darlene); brother, Robert “Bobby” Jarvis (Pat); sister, Clara Elmira Pinkard (Kent); three grandchildren, Ahmir Smith, Amara Smith and Ruby Stephens, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The viewing will be held 2-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, at J.K. Redmond Funeral Home. The graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, at Windsor Gardens, Dutton. Service of comfort provided by Knight Funeral Home, Mathews, assisted by J.K. Redmond Funeral Home, Shacklefords.
