Frank, Winter receive HRECU scholarships

Two local students—one each from Gloucester and Mathews high schools—were among five seniors awarded $1,000 scholarships by the Hampton Roads Educators Credit Union.

Kristen Frank of MHS and Farren Winter of GHS were awarded Career Development Scholarships from HRECU.

Frank plans to study animal sciences with her ultimate goal of obtaining a Doctorate of Veterinary Sciences. Her first choice is to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute. She also participated in the prestigious Chesapeake Bay Governors School Program offered to Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula gifted students, where math, science, technology and research are woven with marine and environmental sciences.

Winter plans to attend Shenandoah University where she will major in Music Therapy. Winter is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club and was a member of the Gloucester High School Choir.
