Frances S. Crawford of Manassas, daughter of Robert Samuel and Margaret Shackelford Sterling, died at age 86 on May 3, 2016.
A Gloucester native, she is survived by her daughter, Mary Anne Sterling, and son-in-law, Benjamin Nordmeyer; brother and sister-in-law, James (Jim) and Jane Sterling; sister, Alice Sterling Gibson, along with six nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, George and Judy Sterling.
She was a 1950 graduate of the Riverside School of Nursing and was a registered nurse for 40 years. Her nursing career led her to storied healthcare organizations in Philadelphia, New York, and Chicago; along with a stint as an industrial nurse in the deserts of Saudi Arabia. Later in her career, she focused on geriatric care. She was a two-time, 42-year breast cancer survivor and a lifelong member of Severn Presbyterian Church.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the church on May 22 at 12:30 p.m., followed by a fellowship luncheon.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Severn Church Cemetery Fund, the American Red Cross, or UsAgainstAlzheimer’s.
