Frances D. Lanier, 86, of Williamsburg, died March 13, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, J. Sidney Lanier.
Frances was a homemaker and proud mother of six children, one daughter and five sons. She also had 12 grandchildren. She was a member of Williamsburg Baptist Church, and supported many charitable and civic organizations throughout her life.
Her greatest love was her children and grandchildren. Frances is survived by her children, Fran Hudson (David) of Gloucester, Sid (Suzanne) of Williamsburg, Steve (Saundra) of Weatherford, Texas, Mark of Richmond, Chris of Williamsburg, and Homer (Kate) of Gloucester. She was a wonderful mother and will be greatly missed.
Nanny is affectionately remembered by her grandchildren, Jessica and Anthony, Allyson and Michael, Samantha, Eileen, Tyler, Ben, Givie, Greg, Kyle, Kevin, Stephanie, and Owen.
Frances was born and raised in Obids, near West Jefferson, N.C. Her parents, Clint and Mary Ann Dillard, had eight children. She is survived by her sisters, Lillian D. Cudworth and Jo Ann Richardson, both of Greensboro, N.C. She is also remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Gene, Ralph, Frank (her twin brother), Ruth, and Carol.
The family received friends on Friday, March 16, from 7-9 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. Her funeral service was held on Saturday, March 17, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
