Fracking town hall meeting tonight

Protecting Water Quality in Coastal Aquifers will be the topic of a town hall meeting at 7 o’clock tonight at Mathews Memorial Library, Main Street, Mathews.

Guest speakers are Scott Kudlas, director of the Office of Water Supply at the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and Randy McFarland, hydrogeologist with the Virginia Water Science Center at the U.S. Geological Survey.

The meeting was originally scheduled for Feb. 19 but was cancelled because of weather. It was requested by the board of supervisors after supervisor Janine Burns presented a resolution for consideration this past November that would formally request that the state work with localities to protect drinking water sources from the effects of fracking, or hydraulic fracturing. ...
