Four MHS wrestlers place at Ram Rumble

Four Mathews wrestlers placed, including two who captured individual titles, in last weekend’s Ram Rumble at Lafayette High School.

A total of 20 teams competed in the two-day competition, with Mathews tying with Warwick for seventh place with 101 points. Cape Henry Collegiate was the overall winner, while Chancellor and Tabb placed second and third, respectively.

Willie Moore (285 lbs.) and James Pavik (220 lbs.) placed first in their respective weight classes with identical 4-0 records. Moore pinned Hampton’s Troy Garrett in the first round, pinned Andrew Snyder from Princess Anne in the quarterfinals, scored a 5-1 decision over Najee Volk of Hampton in the semis and pinned Jacob Rose of Tabb to take the crown. "Not bad for a kid that’s 45 pounds under weight," MHS head coach Tom Holaday quipped.
