Four MHS wrestlers place at invitational

The Mathews High School wrestling team had four members place during Saturday’s MHS Invitational, according to head coach Josh Schiable.

Teams from Bruton, Essex, Franklin, Grafton, Lafayette, Lloyd C. Bird, Middlesex, Norview, Peninsula Catholic, King and Queen, and Washington and Lee joined the host Blue Devils in competition over the winter break.

Mathews had one wrestler crowned champion of his weight class. Parker Thompson (10-1 on the season) was the 138 lbs. champion with one pin and two minor decisions.

Caleb Sadler (8-4 on the season) placed third at 113 lbs. with three pins; Mason Fiscella (10-2 on the season) placed third at 170 lbs. with one pin and two minor decisions (including one in overtime), and Dominick Cummings (3-1 on the season) placed third at 220 lbs. with three pins.
