Four GHS harriers qualify for nationals

Four Gloucester High School cross country athletes qualified for the USATF XC National Junior Olympics with their performances at the USATF XC Virginia Junior Olympics Championships at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville on Nov. 21. 
The top 15 finishers in each age group qualified for the national event. The GHS qualifiers included freshmen Aaron Shipe in the 4K for ages 13-14 with sixth place in 14:47.58 and Joshua Shackelford in the 5K for ages 15-16 in fourth place with a time of 17:24.65. 
Also, sophomores Andrew Wible in the 5K for ages 17-18 with 11th place in 19:56.8 and Ashley Pierro in the 5K for ages 15-16 with 15th place in 25:58.89. Sophomore Derek Drummond competed in the 5K for ages 15-16 and placed 19th in 20:34.48. 
The National Junior Olympics Cross County races will be held on Dec. 12 in Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque, N.M.
