Four Dukes win All-District baseball honors

Four Gloucester High School baseball players received Peninsula All-District honors for the 2011 season. Jacob Houston, s also selected to play for the East team in the Commonwealth Games this summer, was named a first team outfielder.

Adam Baldwin was named a second team third baseman and honorable mentions went to Brian Belvin and David Lutz. Lutz will play for Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C., next spring.

GHS head coach Derek Kibler also provided an update on GHS alumni now playing ball on the college level. Joey Burney (2010) played in 45 games for Old Dominion University and was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American at designated hitter and an All-CAA Rookie. Burney hit .257 with 13 doubles, eight home runs and 34 RBIs.

Cameron Cecil (’10) was named to the All-MEAC Second Team at catcher and is currently playing for the Peninsula Pilots. Colby Wiggins (’10) played in 49 games for Chowan University and was named the CIAA Rookie of the Year....
