Foundation run raises about $17,000

The Gloucester County Public Schools Educational Foundation/Chesapeake Bank and Chesapeake Investment Group 3K Walk and 8K run held on Feb. 18 at Gloucester High School raised about $17,000 after expenses, according to Beth Gibson of the foundation.

This is the foundation’s only fundraiser and proceeds support its Teacher of the Year program, along with mini-grants for Gloucester teachers who want to offer more educational opportunities for students.

Gibson said more than 320 people signed up to walk or run. At least 50 people volunteered to help with the event and more than 30 businesses and individuals contributed financially.

The top male finisher in the 8K was Ryan Carroll, 34, of Portsmouth who finished in 25:40 to break his 2016 course record of 26.31. Adam Otstot, 34, of Williamsburg was second in 25:50 and Tanner Baker, 14, of Gloucester was third in 29:15.
