Fortunate fishermen haul in citation catches

Chesapeake Bay waters continue to yield fish that qualify for citations in the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament, and Gloucester-Mathews residents continue to catch these big ones, according to the Aug. 12 update on vasaltwaterjournal.com.

The fortunate fishermen included:

David Lass of Gloucester, 50” red drum caught Aug. 1 on bait at Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel;William A. Horsley of Gloucester, 50” red drum caught July 24 in the Rappahannock River on bait;Raymond Thad Church of Mathews, 4-pound, 9-ounce Spanish mackerel caught July 25 while trolling off Cape Charles, and

Hayden Owens of Port Haywood, 4-pound, 8-ounce Spanish mackerel caught July 16 while trolling in Chesapeake Bay.Also, the waters off Gwynn’s Island produced a 4-pound, 1-ounce citation Spanish mackerel on July 25 for James Stockton of Chesterfield.
