Fort Nonsense plans move forward

Plans for development of an historical and interpretive park at Fort Nonsense are moving along, with construction expected to begin next week, if weather permits.

Mathews Historical Society spokesman Frank Lansinger said his organization and the county had a pre-construction meeting this week with engineering firm Land Studio, general contractor Branscome Construction and VDOT to finalize plans.

A groundbreaking is being planned, said Lansinger, and work is being done on making the park part of the Civil War Trails program and having it placed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
