Forrest retains his teaching license

An attempt to revoke the state teaching license of Mathews High School teacher Charles “Tony” Forrest has failed to win approval from the Virginia Board of Education.

“Yesterday, the BOE voted 7-1 in favor of me,” Forrest said on Thursday, Sept. 28 “It’s official. My license will not be revoked and the matter is closed.”

A letter from Dr. Steven R. Staples, state superintendent of public instruction, to Forrest stated that “at its meeting on September 27, 2017, the Virginia Board of Education voted to support my recommendation on the previously initiated petition to revoke your license be taken. Accordingly, the matter has been closed.”

This most recent attempt to remove Forrest from the classroom comes six months after the Mathews County School Board overruled a recommendation from Superintendent of Schools Nancy B. Welch to remove the physical education/health teacher from his position at Mathews High School.
