Former top enlisted man to speak on Veterans Day

Duane R. Bushey, who served as the seventh Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON), will be the featured speaker at the annual Veterans Day Dinner and Awards Ceremony hosted by American Legion Post 83 and its Auxiliary.

The dinner will be held at 6 p.m. next Thursday, Nov. 11, at the post home on Route 198 in Hudgins. Tickets are $14 per person.

From 1988 to 1992, Bushey was the most senior enlisted member of the U.S. Navy. The rank of MCPON is equivalent to Sergeant Major of the Army, Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard and Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The MCPON is appointed by the Chief of Naval Operations to serve as a spokesman to address the issues of enlisted personnel to the highest positions in the Navy.
