Former Mathews resident killed; son charged with her murder

A former Mathews County resident who now lives in Bowie, Md., has been charged with first- and second-degree murder in the death of his mother.

Charles Elliott Crockett, 22, was charged on Thursday, Sept. 17 after his mother, Roberta Susan “Bobbi” Crockett died on Sept. 16 from head injuries allegedly inflicted by her son the week before.

According to Lt. Kirk McLean of the Prince George’s County Maryland Police Department, Bobbi Crockett had been hospitalized since the assault on Sept. 6. He said that police officers were dispatched that day to a call for a family dispute at the Crocketts’ home in the 12800 block of Holiday Lane in Bowie.

Upon arrival, the officers found Bobbi Crockett, who was unresponsive. McLean said that while investigating the incident, the officers discovered that Charles Crockett had gotten into an argument with his mother and had allegedly used a rolling pin to repeatedly hit her in the head.
