FLOYD GENE WARD

Floyd Gene Ward, 71, of Wake, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 5, 2021, surrounded by his family and friends. True to his nature, Floyd fought hard to be there for his family throughout his whole life and all the way to his last breath. Floyd was a provider and the rock for those around him. His life was filled with many friends and loved ones who witnessed the integrity and faithfulness that drove him every day.

As this worldly life ends and his eternal life begins, Floyd leaves a legacy and a mark on the water where he worked his entire life captaining buyboats and steel tugs. As a child growing up on Jackson Creek, Floyd loved and lived the water. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard before going to work with the family business. Stories will be told for generations of Captain Floyd and his time on the Chesapeake Bay.

Mostly, he was the Captain of our hearts. He was a faithful husband and the most loving and devoted father. The love that he gave endlessly to his family will be carried on by his wife, Helen Marie; his children, Floyd Aaron, Rosabeth, Helen Elizabeth, Jacob Elliott, and his daughter-in-law, Amanda; his granddaughters, Sophie Grace, Macon Avery, and Piper Elliott; his parents, Floyd and Jean Ward; his mother-in-law, Frances Johnston; his brothers, Kenneth (Carol) and Gary (Regina) and their children; his brother-in-law, Michael (Holly); his family and business partners, John Melvin and Jay Ward, and many dear friends and family. He was predeceased by his brother, Tom, and his dear friend, Kevin Wade.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Lower United Methodist Church in honor of Floyd Gene’s life and his love of the Lord. (Lower UMC, Designation: In memory of Floyd Ward, P.O. Box 98, Hartfield, Va. 23071.)

Funeral services will be held at Lower United Methodist Church on Friday, July 9, 2021 at 11 a.m., with visitation to be held one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow at the church after the service.
