Flounder fishing was good this weekend in the Buoy 42/Cell areas, according to Jerry Thrash of Queens Creek Outfitters at Cobbs Creek. "While we weighed no citations this week, several boats had limits of fish, several of which were over five pounds," Thrash said.
"Cobia seem to be staying put around York Spit and from there south," he added.
According to Thrash, croaker and spot fishing is improving with some larger fish being caught around Gwynn’s Island, on the Spike and in the mouth of the Rappahannock River.
Finally, Thrash said that large spadefish have been sighted
at Wolf Trap Light and at the Cell but there have still been no citations weighed in at his store.
Hope Jenkins of York River Feed and Fishing Supply, Inc., Gloucester Point, reported anglers are still catching spot in the York River. Cobia fishing has also been good, she added.
Jenkins reported the following citations: Gordon West of Hayes, for a 7-pound, 3-ounce flounder caught at Buoy 42 and Eric Thomas of Gloucester Point, for a 52-inch red drum release in the Mobjack Bay.
