FLORACE LOCKWOOD ARNOLD

Florace Lockwood Arnold, age 92, of Hayes, Virginia, died on Friday, August 1, 2025 (which would have been her 72nd wedding anniversary). Florace was born in Richmond, Va., on September 26, 1932 to the late Jacob Franklin and Vivian Lee Shamlin Lockwood. After graduating from John Marshall High School in Richmond and Temple University, she married Thomas Heaton Arnold and launched a 20-year career as an army wife. Every move found her teaching music, singing in Episcopal and Anglican church choirs every Sunday, and playing the viola in various symphony orchestras. In recent years, she took great delight in playing her hammered dulcimer, especially for any gathering of her great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Heaton Arnold. She is survived by her children: Susan Arnold Alvarado (Mario), Vivian A. Hernandez, Lawrence Heaton Arnold (Renee), and Thomas Lockwood Arnold; grandchildren: Vijay (Desarey), Joseph (Cheyenne), Mitchell (Dayene), and David (Destiny), Tara, and Trip; great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Luke, Waylon, Autumn, Zia, and Nila. A celebration of Florace’s life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Abingdon Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rector Sven vanBaars, and followed by refreshments in the parish hall.

Services will be under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home & Crematory.
