Floodplain ordinance discussion likely to continue Tuesday

Revising Mathews County’s floodplain ordinance appears to be no easy task.

After months of meeting to discuss the details of the ordinance, the committee appointed by the Mathews County Board of Supervisors to address the issue cancelled its latest meeting, scheduled for March 27, by posting a sign on the door of the historic courthouse.

The posted sign said that supervisors G.C. Morrow and Amy Dubois, who are on the committee, had “determined that an effective outcome is not possible” and that more information would be available at the next regular board meeting. That meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse.

In addition to Morrow and Dubois, committee members are County Administrator Mindy Conner, County Attorney Daniel Stuck, and Building Official Jamie Wilks.
