Five GHS alumni on college softball teams

Five Gloucester High School graduates either resumed or started their college softball seasons in recent weeks, according to GHS varsity softball coach David Lindsay.

Lindsay said pitcher Stephanie Coates, now in her third year at the University of Virginia, is 2-0 on the season with wins over Drexel and St. John’s and has an ERA of 3.00. The Cavaliers are 6-0 headed to the Cathedral City Classic in California this week.

Brenna Thomas is a junior playing for the 5-9 Chowan University Hawks. Lindsay said Thomas is hitting .333 and recently recorded a single in the loss to UNC-Pembroke.

Freshman Karli Robb is playing second base for 6-4 Lees McRae and is hitting over .300. Lindsay said she recorded her first college hits against Shaw University, notching three hits including a pair of triples in that game. She recently hit her first college home run in a doubleheader split with Mount Olive.
