Fishing picking up at Beaverdam

With the coldest months behind us, fishing is beginning to pick up at Gloucester’s Beaverdam Reservoir, according to park ranger Elizabeth Keefer.

Keefer said anglers are catching largemouth bass from boats in deep seven-foot water, but fishing from the floating pier has not offered much action.

A chain pickerel was caught from a boat close to the Ranger Station Saturday morning and black crappie are being caught by anglers fishing from boats and from shore at the Fary’s Mill Road entrance to the park.

Beaverdam Park is open from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. through Saturday and from Sunday through March 31 the park will be open from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The park has also returned to renting watercraft and selling bait and concessions. For more information, call the Ranger Station at 804-693-2107.
