Four residents earned catch-and-release cobia citations in the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament in the latest report of vasaltwaterjournal.com. Cobia catches up to June 15, when the season opened, had to be released when caught. John Muerdler of Hayes, caught a 50.5-inch cobia in the York River Channel on May 29; Donald Marshall of Hayes, caught a 53-inch cobia at York Spit Light on May 27; Mekayla Crouse of Hayes, caught a 51-inch cobia on May 18 casting off Sandbridge; and Andrew Crouse of Hayes, caught a 53-inch cobia on May 18, also casting off Sandbridge.Big red drum releases are also earning citations for residents. These include Corey Christensen of Hudgins, 46-inch drum caught June 7 on a wreck in Chesapeake Bay; Brock Larson of Moon, 50-inch drum and a 46-inch drum, both caught June 7 in the bay on the Eastern Shore; Finally, the big sheepshead, are biting now.
