Fishing activity heating up

Fishing activity heated up in May, with a number of citation fish of various species caught by residents and registered in the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament.

According to the latest list in vasaltwaterjournal.com, these local anglers received citations:

John Moore of Saluda, 46” black drum caught May 8 off Oyster on the Eastern Shore;

Three blueline tilefish caught by Jason E. Hall of Mathews, Jonathan Dehoux of Mathews, and Carter Cooke of Hudgins, on May 15 at Norfolk Canyon. The fish weighed 16 pounds 6 ounces, 10 pounds six ounces, and 13 pounds nine ounces, respectively.

Michael Mahler of Hayes caught a 73” shark on May 7 in Norfolk Canyon for a citation.

Catching citation speckled trout were Keith Nuttall of Gloucester, a 25.75” fish caught in Ware River, and Tony Hudgins of North, who caught his 5 pound 5 ounce, 23.5” fish in Mobjack Bay.
