First place

The Page Middle School Robotics Club placed first at the 17th annual Virginia Ship Repair Association’s Shipbuilding Design Competition held at Nauticus on March 16. The Page team came up with an innovative way for ships to use artificial intelligence to detect and avoid collisions with whales. The students called their innovation, P.A.W.D.S.—Page Automated Whale Detection System. They earned the first-place prize of $1,500. Team members are, from left, Walter Clemons, Isaiah Potter, Noah Daniel, Cameron O’Connell, Halea Korte, Maximus McNair, Maddox Newman, Ethan Stotts and Chase Chesterfield.
