Fireworks in Gloucester

The Gloucester Point Beach should be a prime viewing spot for the fireworks show that Yorktown will hold over the York River on Tuesday in honor of Independence Day; however, no special events are planned at the Point beach.

“There will be limited parking at the beachfront,” said Patti McGrath, superintendent of parks for Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism. People are encouraged to park in several designated lots nearby on the Virginia Institute of Marine Science campus.

Law enforcement and emergency medical personnel will be stationed in the gravel lot at the beach as in previous years, McGrath said.

The Gloucester Point Pier is open 24 hours a day for fishing, she said, and the beach park is open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. All county parks will be open to the public on July 4.

At Yorktown, the annual Yorktown Fourth of July Celebration will be held on Tuesday. Activities will start at 8 a.m. with an 8K Run and 5K Walk at York High School.
