Fireworks displays to light up the skies

Local residents and visitors will have several opportunities in both Mathews and Gloucester to view local fireworks displays Thursday night in celebration of Independence Day.

Mathews County’s 22nd annual Fireworks Show will be begin at 7 o’clock tonight at Mathews High School. The rain date is Friday.

The fireworks display itself will begin at approximately 9 p.m.

Overflow parking will be available at Thomas Hunter Middle School on Church Street, with a shuttle bus provided from 7 p.m. until the end of the show. Buckley Hall Road in front of the high school will be closed from 9 o’clock until the fireworks are over.

Five prizes will be raffled off the night of the event, with raffle tickets available for purchase at Cattail’s, Country Cuts, or on-site at the fireworks.
