Fires destroy two Gloucester homes

Fire recently destroyed two homes in Gloucester, one in the 8400 block of Guinea Road and the other on Carrington Road in the Founder’s Mill subdivision.

The Guinea Road fire occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22. Firefighters were dispatched to respond to a “fully engulfed structure fire,” said Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad Assistant Chief David Townsend.

When units arrived, there was heavy fire through the roof of the one-story brick structure, he said. Although firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, the home was a total loss because of extensive fire, smoke, and water damage.

Townsend said the fire began in the garage and was most likely electrical. The sole occupant of the home was a male who heard a noise that woke him, and he found the garage fully engulfed in flames.
