Firefighters battle several structure fires

Firefighters were busy over the weekend, battling several structure fires; one in northern Gloucester near Signpine and another at Ordinary. No injuries were reported as a result of the blazes, but occupants of both homes have been displaced.

Both fires occurred around the same time Sunday afternoon, after 4 o’clock. Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad spokesperson Hanna Carson said the first fire called in was a report of an attached garage on fire at a residence on Island Road near Signpine. The cause of the fire appeared to be a grill that was too close to the home, she said.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found a one-and-a-half-story house with heavy fire coming from the attached garage that quickly spread to the attic area of the house and a vehicle that was parked in front of the garage,” Carson said. “All occupants were out of the house, and one person was assessed, but not treated or transported.”
