A Woods Cross Roads couple was forced to flee their home in the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday, April 4 due to a fire that heavily damaged the structure. No one was seriously hurt in the blaze.
Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, Inc., captain Trey Rilee said firefighters were dispatched to the 3700 block of Shady Creek Lane just before 4 o’clock.
When firefighters arrived on scene, flames were seen coming from the attic of the doublewide mobile home. Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, Rilee said. However, one bedroom, the utility room and kitchen were destroyed.
After the fire was extinguished, firefighters went into salvage mode, spending a good amount of time trying to save as many of the couple’s belongings as possible.
According to Rilee, the homeowners were alerted to the blaze by their dog’s barking. When they woke up, they noticed a glow coming from an exterior wall near the attic.
