Fire damages Pinetta home

A fire last Thursday morning caused significant damage to a Pinetta home. The cause of the fire on Poplar Ridge Road is still under investigation, according to Hanna Carson of the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad.

When fire units responded to the scene around 7:40 a.m., Carson said volunteers saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the back corner of the house.

The homeowner called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the air vents, Carson said. The occupants of the home were advised to exit the structure and shortly thereafter, their smoke alarms went off.

The residents reported to the first arriving unit that all of the occupants were out of the house and no one was injured. However, it was later discovered that the homeowner’s cat did not make it out of the house.
