Farmhouses featured on this year’s house tour

The 2013 Mathews County Historic House Tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine, at five historic Mathews properties—two in Hallieford, two in the Garden Creek area, and one in the Court House.

Farmhouses will be featured on this year’s tour, including the 18th-century Folly Farm, two 19th-century structures—Skidmore Manor and the home at 1057 Old Garden Creek Road—and the early 20th-century Peony Flats. Bethel United Methodist Church is featured, as well.

Visitors are also encouraged to stop at Mathews Court House to visit Tompkins Cottage, Sibley’s General Store (now the Mathews County Visitor and Information Center), and Thomas James Store.

Pre-tour tickets are $20 and are available at the Mathews County Visitor and Information Center and Flowers from the Heart.

Tour-day tickets are $25 for the entire tour or $10 per house and will be available at Tompkins Cottage, the Visitor’s Center, Flowers from the Heart, and...
