Farm Fresh at Hayes to become Kroger

The Farm Fresh grocery store at Hayes will become a Kroger later this year.

SUPERVALU INC., the owner of the local Farm Fresh store, announced last week that it has entered into three separate definitive agreements to sell 21 of its 38 Farm Fresh stores for approximately $43 million in cash to three different retailers. According to Mike Wilken, a spokesperson from SUPERVALU, the transactions, which will include the Hayes store, will be complete in May.

Wilken said SUPERVALU will continue to work with Kroger to “ensure a smooth transition” and expects them “to offer positions to many Farm Fresh employees.” Approximately 90 people are employed at the Hayes store, he said.

“We provided all Farm Fresh employees with notification letters and a minimum 60-day notice as required by law,” Wilken added. “The notifications are a minimum of 60 days and we can extend beyond the 60 days if necessary.” The company also plans to offer eligible emplo...
