Fantastic reception will open juried art show

Art Speaks on the Bay, a juried art show, opens Saturday at the Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews. This, the third annual show, features the works of 83 artists and will open with a reception from 4-7 p.m.

Volunteers are making the foods for this event, and volunteers will serve it and will staff the school for the reception.

The juried art show, open only to Virginia artists, drew 300 entries from across the state. From these Jill Jensen, a well-known artist, lecturer, curator and teacher serving as the judge, selected the finalists.

Among them are 12 artists from Gloucester and Mathews: Karen Podd, Patty Rosenberg, Cynthia Ray, Rebecca Grow, Martha Hayes, Carolyn Dudley, Brian Rainey, Paul Blais, Bonnie Hayman, Rita Cutler, Dennis Rundlett and Gayle Merrill.
