Fanny “Tene” Seawell West, of Hayes, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022. She retired from the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, and was a member of Union Baptist Church, Achilles, where she worked in the nursery and served on various committees. Tene loved being a homemaker. She was passionate about her family and they were her greatest joy and pride. The family “love you” name for her was Gran, and Gran always supported her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in generous and practical ways. She was incredibly proud of them and always went above and beyond to support every effort. In her later years, Tene became an avid fan of North Carolina Tar Heel basketball, and proudly wore her Tar Heel shirts wherever she went. Tene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Merton West; her parents, Willie and Jennie Seawell, and her brother, Sonny Seawell. She is survived by her son, the Rev. Dr. Danny M. West and his wife Jeanne; grandchildren, Tara Reich and husband Jordan, Megan West, the Rev. Cameron West and wife Sarah, and great-grandchildren, Matilda Reich, Gavin, and Zoe West; sisters, Shirley Lewis, Jennie Handley, and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside celebration of Tene’s life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at 1 p.m. in Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery, conducted by her son, the Rev. Dr. Danny M. West, and her grandson, the Rev. Cameron West. Memorial contributions may be made to Chancellor Baptist Church, 11324 Gordon Road, Fredericksburg, Va. 22407 with the notation, “Guatemala.” This is a ministry of her grandson, Cameron, which was a mission that was dear to her and she supported.
