FANNIE RILEY MULLINS

On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2020, at 12:30 p.m., Fannie Riley Mullins, 99, of Clintwood, entered her heavenly home to see the face of God whom she has served with gladness and joy.

She was born in Salyersville, Kentucky, to James and Maude Fletcher Riley. At the age of 16, she fell in love with, and married Curtis Mullins of Pound, Virginia, and they lived happily together for 50 years. Together they built a home and reared their three sons and two daughters. Fannie was a founding member of Pyles Memorial Freewill Baptist Church in Pound where the family worshiped and Fannie taught Sunday school. Fannie dearly loved her family and was very proud of them, attending and supporting all special occasions. After the children were in school, Fannie began working in Pangles Department Store, later the Fabric House. She loved the job because she loved meeting people. She never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel special when she talked to them. She had a smile that brightened a room and a glow about her that reflected the inner joy and peace of God in her heart. Her life was devoted to God, her husband, her family, and her friends. She lived to serve.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and a brother; her husband, Curtis, and son, Palmer Ray Mullins.

Surviving Fannie are her four other children, Wanda Friend (Ray), Donnie Mullins (Eva Jackson Mullins), Carolyn Strouth (Mike), and Gerard Mullins (Kathy); eight-grandchildren, Robin Lewis (special for being the first), Tracy Mullins Kiefer (Mark), Shannon Mullins League (Jay), Karlee Mullins Cole (Ronnie), Jonathan Whittaker (Lanny Bolling), Julie Mullins Wash (Nate), David Whittaker (Amanda Estep), and Luke Mullins (Renee); 12 great-grandchildren, Katie Kiefer Burke (Bradley), Ryan Kiefer, Riley League (Anabelle), Julianne League, Thomas Cole, Alexandra Cole, Kaylee Wash, Quinton Wash, Mya Mullins, Adam Mullins, Landon Whittaker, and Ava Whittaker; one great-great-grandchild, Annabelle Cole; a special family member, Sandra Bolling Mullins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family received friends from 12-1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise. Burial followed in the Riley Mullins Cemetery in Pound. State mandated social distancing and occupancy were followed. Masks were required and were not supplied by the family or funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riley Mullins Cemetery, 9101 Meridian Road, Pound, Va. 24279.
