Family recipes make up a new cookbook

Susan Adams and her husband, Edgar, had always talked about putting a cookbook together. When her aunt Barbara Callis Bartha passed away, leaving Susan all of her recipes and cookbooks, the idea became reality. "Brooks, Callis and Richardson Family’s Favorite Recipes," written, printed and published by Susan is now available.

"I love to cook and sew," Susan proudly says. "In my baby book on the page where it asks "what does baby like to do," written in is "cook and sew age three." I grew up with good cooks and have been loving to do it since an early age when my grandmother would let me help her in the kitchen. She showed me how to make clam fritters. My mother didn’t like them."

Susan says later on when her dad, Elwood K. Brooks Jr., was working in his shop or at the store, she would fix their lunch when she was at home. "Sometimes we would have eggs or something we wanted cornbread with, and I didn’t know ...
