Family Math Night

Three eighth grade FCCLA members—Gracie Hellebrandt, Jordan West and Eloise Leslie (top photo from left)—hosted a Family Math Night event last Thursday at Mathews Elementary School. During the event, the girls also shared copies of their children’s book, “Five Penguins with Pennies,” which is about financial literacy. They planned math game stations designed for grades 3-5 in an effort to show students that math can be fun and showed parents ways to help their children review skills using games. In photo below, Kate Small (at right) leads Dianne Congrove and her granddaughter JoJo through a game of “Fraction War.” Hellebandt, West and Leslie created an Amazon Wish List allowing community members to purchase games and prizes that supplied every student a goodie bag and each of the three grade-level teachers were given a bag of games for their classrooms.
