Family Arts Festival on Saturday at Bay School

The Bay School’s annual Family Art Festival coincides with the Mathews May Faire Celebration this year and includes activities with clay at every level from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 279 Main Street, Mathews. Along the Bay School driveway, art lovers will find free art activities for children and adults, including clay hand-building and wheel-throwing experiences. Other art activities include tie-dye, artist trading cards, fish prints, beaded jewelry, mobiles, suncatchers, sun prints, rock painting, and adding a personal touch to this year’s community painting and two new plastic bottlecap mosaics. Those attending may participate in or watch the annual Raku Firing outdoors or the new Clay Olympics inside the studio. Participants in the raku firing are able to choose a bisque-fired pot or small figurine to glaze and then watch it be fired to 1800°F. in less than an hour. The cost is $30.
