May Day was a popular and much-aniticpated event in local schools for most of the 20th century, dying around in the last few decades. The big day brought races, baseball games, plays, and the traditional presentation of a May Court, with queen and attendants. “Around the World” was the theme of May Day at Hayes Elementary School in 1962.
